Let the Mountains Move You
Far-reaching mountain ranges, mighty rivers, and glacier-fed wilderness lakes surround the village of Valemount the northern-most community in the North Thompson Valley. Found nestled in between the Cariboo, Monashee and the Rocky mountain ranges; Valemount is home to the Canadian Rockies’ tallest peak at Mount Robson, near the mouth of the Fraser River’s headwaters, and your doorway to never-ending wilderness possibilities.
You can feel the mountains pulling you in as you travel the Yellowhead Highway north to Valemount. Valemount may be the last town before the Alberta border, but you’ll want to do more than just fuel-up here. Spend the day, or make plans for an extended stay to hike, raft, cross-country ski, or snowmobile our mountain wilderness. Sample a little of everything we have to offer, we guarantee you’ll be glad you did.
Valemount is the access point to the great Canadian outdoors. Whether it’s a quiet stroll through Cranberry Marsh wilderness sanctuary, or exploring the trails of a UNESCO World Heritage Site at Mount Robson Provincial Park, the wilderness has a way of beckoning you to venture outside.
Explore the wonders of Mount Robson on your own or on a guided tour. Choose to trek your way 23 km (14 mi) up the Berg Lake trail to the pristine blue-green waters that gave the trail its name, or take a scenic heli tour to experience this gleaming glacial jewel. Create warm summer memories on a family-friendly scenic float trip along the historic Fraser River or bound through its rapids and feel the thrill of riding its waves white water rafting. Wander your way through the R.W. Starratt Nature Preserve, (what the locals call Cranberry Marsh) and revel in the migratory patterns of 140 species of birds. Make the snow fly on an epic snowmobile journey through the winter wilderness or snowshoe pioneer-style amongst powder drenched trees. No matter what open-air activity you prefer, you’ll find it in Valemount.
